The Origin
Developed by an engineer who has worked through the pain points first-hand
HydroBlocs has been developed by Miguel Cano, Chartered Engineer and Fellow of CIWEM, drawing on more than 15 years of treatment works hydraulic design experience across the UK water sector.
The product started from a practical observation: too much hydraulic design effort is still tied up in fragmented spreadsheets, manual long sections, and review processes that are harder than they should be.
HydroBlocs is intended to give engineering teams a more professional workflow, not just a new interface. The goal is better visibility of the hydraulic logic, faster option testing, and clearer technical review.
What Guides the Product
Built from engineering practice
The product direction is grounded in real treatment works hydraulic design experience across the UK water sector.
Designed for clarity
The aim is not just to calculate the answer, but to make the controlling logic and review story more visible to engineers.
Focused on treatment works
HydroBlocs is intentionally specialised rather than trying to be a generic network platform for every hydraulic problem.
Who's Behind HydroBlocs
Built by a consultancy-side hydraulic leader
HydroBlocs has grown from hands-on treatment works design experience, shaped by extensive use of existing commercial software and a clear understanding of where spreadsheet-led workflows become limiting.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng)
- Fellow of CIWEM (FCIWEM)
- More than 15 years of hydraulic engineering experience across the UK water sector
Relevant Experience
- Founded and led hydraulic engineering teams
- Developed hydraulic standards and governance frameworks
- Delivered hydraulic training programmes for utilities and consultancies
- Delivered guest lectures in hydraulics at UK universities over the past 10 years
Positioning
What HydroBlocs is trying to be, and what it is not
The product direction is intentionally focused. That focus is what allows the workflow to stay relevant to treatment works design teams instead of becoming a vague general-purpose tool.
- Not a generic sewer network modeller repackaged for plant design
- Not a spreadsheet wrapper with prettier graphics
- Not a black box that hides hydraulic controls from reviewers
Next Step
Start a conversation about your consultancy workflow
If your team is tackling repeated treatment works hydraulic reviews, HydroBlocs is best understood through a short conversation around your existing process, where spreadsheets slow you down, and where a more connected workflow could help.
